About Our Dinner
Down Island is about Martha's Vineyard. Our chef looks outward to conceive of simple, flavorful dishes inspired by the land and sea here. Scott Cummings has been cooking on Martha's Vineyard for thirteen years and through Down Island has found an outlet to express his love of the island.
The chef starts with the fresh ingredients and builds dishes around them to provide a culinary experience for the guest that goes beyond your typical restaurant. You are on Martha's Vineyard, and we believe you should experience an island to table culinary experience. This island and the surrounding waters provide a bounty that rewards chefs and diners with its diversity and freshness, and at Down Island we work to express that as simply and beautifully as we can.
We are located in the heart of downtown Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, and we are the sister restaurant of 20byNine.
In the evenings Down Island serves a diverse menu heavily reliant on farm fresh produce, poultry, fish, and meat from responsible sources, farmers, and fishermen. The menu is a five-course set dinner of modern American cuisine for $64, and we serve beer; wine; and cocktails. If you arrive between 6 and 6:30, you can come sit at the counter and enjoy three courses instead for $38.
Dinner almost always includes meat, seafood, and nuts. We can accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies, especially with advanced notice. We update our menu Wednesdays, and post it here by noon.
We are located in the basement of the historic Lampost building in Oak Bluffs, at 6 Circuit Avenue, **however our entrance is located across the street from 20byNine on Kennebec Avenue behind the Lampost building and Giordano's Restaurant.**
Our restaurant atmosphere is meant to be comfortable, so please come as you are. No jackets or formal wear required.
